DESCRIPTION

Launched in 2000, The Ileach (pronounced Eee-luhk) Cask Strength is a peated single malt whisky from an undisclosed distillery on Islay, independently bottled by the Vintage Malt Whisky Company. Matured in a combination of refill ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, and peated to around 40ppm. Bottled at a cask strength of 58%. (Bottle size 70cl)

OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES

Nose: Earthy, smokey peat and salty ocean breeze.

Palate: Pungent peat smoke and chewy sweet malt. Pepper, tar and a touch of iodine.

Finish: Long and warming. Smokey ashes of the peat fire.

Brian Crook founded the bottling company Vintage Malt Whisky Co. Ltd in 1992 after leaving Morrison Bowmore Distillers. He launched the business with new brands like Finlaggan and Glenalmond. The Ileach was not introduced until 1997, when Crook established Highlands & Islands Whisky Co. Ltd as a sister company. The cask strength expression of the single malt was launched three years later, with a brand redesign following in 2013.
